Peter Kruse Bio

Peter Kruse is a versatile Chicagoland artist whose warm, inviting sound has made him a favorite at venues, restaurants, events, and festivals throughout the region. Whether performing intimate solo acoustic sets or bringing high-energy covers with his band Wagon Wheel, Peter creates the perfect atmosphere for any occasion. His style blends the laid-back, nature-inspired vibes of Jack Johnson and Hollow Coves with the storytelling warmth of Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Ed Sheeran, and Jason Mraz—making his music ideal for creating memorable experiences at Gallagher Way at Wrigley Field, corporate events, private parties, or relaxed restaurant nights.

As a member of Wagon Wheel, a Chicago-area cover band that fuses country and classic rock, Peter delivers energetic, crowd-pleasing performances. The band has lit up Gallagher Way (Wrigley Field, owned by the Cubs), opened for 16 Candles and 7th Heaven, and covered favorites from Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, CCR, Zac Brown Band, Jimmy Buffett, Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, and many more. Peter’s smooth vocals and engaging stage presence make Wagon Wheel a go-to choice for fun, dance-ready sets that keep audiences entertained all night.

Peter’s creative journey is as rich as his live performances. His love for music was sparked at age 16 when Grammy-winning artist Rich Mullins stayed at the Kruse family home for three weeks—an experience that inspired Peter to master the hammered dulcimer and found the band Rufus Tree. With Rufus Tree, he released two albums, including Dying to Live, which featured Grammy-nominated guitarist Phil Keaggy on two tracks and Dove Award winner Mitch McVicker on vocals. Award-winning composer Michael Aukofer produced both Rufus Tree records and later collaborated with Peter on solo material. During this time, Peter performed in Japan for U.S. troops and opened for Lifehouse, SonicFlood, and Blind Melon.

In the Chicago band A Gain of Ten, Peter headlined the legendary Metro venue and contributed to a tribute CD honoring Deep Purple guitarist Tommy Bolin, which earned positive reviews from Yahoo Music and Classic Rock Review. Peter’s international experience continued while living in China, where he opened for Fei Xiang—one of the best-selling artists in Chinese history—and Fei Yuqing.

Whether he’s singing original songs about summer days on the Great Lakes or escaping Chicagoland winters, or leading a high-energy cover set with Wagon Wheel, Peter Kruse brings heart, talent, and professional polish to every performance. He is available for solo acoustic gigs, full-band shows, and everything in between—ready to make your next event unforgettable.
